Nevermore Chamber Music Festival

Eighth Blackbird

May 22, 2022

Kinesthetics is an album of "functional background music" written by Justin Peters to accompany the practice of meditiation, movement, and flow. Commissioned by Train Your Frame, LLC, the eight tracks follow the arc of a standard 60-minute vinyasa practice, beginning with the exploration of one's existence in space, slowly adding momentum and larger movements, and eventually coming to a place of meditative inwardness. In this special performance, members of Eighth Blackbird are joined by soprano Jocelyn Zelasko and the composer to create new live versions of the work.

New Music Detroit

New Music Detroit

May 19, 2022

New Music Detroit returns to the Andy Arts Center (3000 Fenkell) with an evening of contemporary classical music culminating with George Crumbs spellbinding "Voice of the Whale." This evening will also feature the premiere of Desiccated by Fjóla Evans. A Canadian/Icelandic composer and cellist, her work explores the visceral physicality of sound while drawing inspiration from patterns of natural phenomena. Inspired by the patterns of cracks in drying mud, Desiccated for piano and percussion builds a world from withered attacks and husky buzzings.
